Saturdays seem rather busy because we have to be at a training meeting at 7:30 in the morning and then we have a shift working at one of the visitor's centers. At the training meeting Elder Russell talked about the importance of families. He talked about how we can only see so far into the future but we need to act on faith on what we can see right now. A train's engine light can help the engineer see for only 100 yards distance at night, but the train can stop in that distance if needed. We don't need to be able to see the whole track in order to go forward into the light that we do have. The hymn "Lead Kindly Light" (pg 127) teaches that principle. I had not thought about the words of that song before, but it is really beautiful.
Lead kindly Light, amid th'encircling gloom,
Led thou me on
The night is dark, and I am far from home,
Lead thou me on
Keep thou my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene--one step enough for me
He tied this in with finding the right partner for eternity and how that small decision we make during our brief time on earth can have an eternal outcome.
We worked at the Kanesville Tabernacle right after the training session. The morning was quite slow, only a couple of couples (man and wife) came in. Then we got a call from Sister Russell informing us that a bus tour with 38 people on it would be coming at about the time our shift ended and the next couple's shift started. Sure enough that is when they came. Then the director of the tour said they only have one half hour for the tour! It was kind of hectic at the end, but turned out ok.
